~~~~~ SALAM PAX ~~~~~
WHO IS SALAM PAX, THE BAGHDAD BLOGGER, and WHERE IS HE?
"Salam Pax" is a pseudonym combining the Arabic and Latin words for peace. He's 36, was born in Iraq, educated in Australia, and when last heard from lived in Baghdad. He has been writing a Web log, or blog, since 2003. For safety, he protected his true identity. Someone revealed who he was, and now it's out there, Salam al-Janabi.
UPDATE 11/1/07- Salam Pax has not been heard from since early 2007. He has not posted on his current blog, his page on Newsvine is gone, he has not submitted any videos to the Guardian U.K. and no one there will tell me if they know anything about his welfare. For the latestg I have, see my blog dedicated to finding information: WHERE IS SALAM PAX?
NEW 2006 - Salam has a new blog, "Shut Up You Fat Whiner, but he has not posted in months.
Quote the Baghdad Blogger, "I'm working my way up to PAX TV."
International media attention focused on Iraq in the run-up to the invasion of Iraq, or Gulf War II. But with satellite TV banned and access to the Internet heavily censored under the Saddam regime, voices from within the country were few and far between. Into this vacuum stepped a 29-year-old resident of Baghdad, calling himself Salam Pax. His Weblog (blog) documenting life in the Iraqi capital before, during and after the US-led invasion achieved world renown, and he now also writes a regular column in the Guardian, U.K, but he has not contributed in months.
