IN MEMORIAM
Gregory Clay Branum
(16 December 1954 - 23 October 2007)
At the time of his death, Greg was the state of Missouri Director of the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Development, having been appointed by President Bush. Prior to that, he worked for the late U.S. Republican Representative from Missouri Bill Emerson and then for his widow, current Representative Jo Ann Emerson.
(Obituary) (Agricultural Award)
Greg helped facilitate a number of projects that have benefited Hornersville this decade. The first project I noticed getting done was the resurfacing of State Hwy 164 from Steele to Cardwell. This was followed by the 4-way stop with a flashing light at Cotton Plant; a complete overhaul of the water system in Hornersville, including laying all new pipes and installing fire hydrants that H'ville never has had; and a soon to be installed tower to improve wireless communication (hope it works for the Internet). In between there were various miscellaneous grants to the Senath-Hornersville School District, Clay Township, and surrounding towns. I know first hand because I was in communication with Greg about projects in the area in which he was involved. As soon as he was appointed to the USDA position, he sent me an e-mail informing me, and asking me to list three or four projects that I thought the lower Bootheel really needed. I listed the one's you see above in the exact order. Of course, I mentioned the improved Internet access every chance I got. Unfortunately, I only learned of his death when my Christmas / New Year e-mail bounced. I knew he was planning on serving his full term with the USDA, so I was shocked by the bounce and started investigating. That's when I found the obituary. Now as to the facts about our kinship, I'm not entirely sure, so I will not post that until I am. But we were related, and I am now working on getting the facts. However, I know a Branum relative when I see and talk to one. CAN ANYONE SUPPLY ANY INFO OR COMMENTS ABOUT GREG?
During that Internet Google, I found the following statement often used about him, "He was a good man." That he was, and he will be deeply missed.
My sympathies to his surviving mother Emma Jean Branum Van Duson, wife Jeanie, daughters Alisa and Kristin, brother Bill, sisters Julie and Mona, and all their family members.

Symbol on James Albert Branum's tombstone identified. Would you believe the emblem is Wiccan? It is probably that, or Order of the Eastern Star. What do you in the William Harrison "Will" and Ruth Underwood Branum line think?
ALLRED FAMILY - - Related through Missouri Horner, daughter of John Z. and Victoria Cougin Branum Horner and James Allred, as well as though James daughter Martha Ann with his first wife Elizabeth White. Martha married her step-mother Missouri Horner's brother. See Branum / Horner Directory for more relations.
