FF Bernal in Rudo and Cursi RUDO Y CURSI (Mexico), written and directed by Carlos Cuarón, his debut film.

Stars Gael García Bernal and Diego Luna, Guillermo Francella, Dolores Heredia, Adriana Paz, Jessica Mas. Producers Alfonso Cuarón (Children of Men, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban), Guillermo del Toro (Pan's Labyrinth, Hellboy), and Alejandro González Iñárritu (Babel) present a splendid, riotous film about a pair of thickheaded stepbrothers whose rivalry takes them from their jobs on a small-town banana ranch to star spots on opposing soccer teams. Yes, Carlos is Alfonso's brother.

This movie has been getting good publicity and playing well on the Spanish-language circuit. A week after it opened it had kicked its way onto the top 20 at the U.S. box office, and was still there 5 June. Entertainment gave it a B+ ranking.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
NEW Note from French Cinema. French Writer / Director Laurent Tirard's LE PETIT NICOLAS opened 30 September. His previous movie was MOLIERE.
Sorry to report that reviewer Jordan Mintzer of Variety did not take to the film. Despite that it the movie had led the Box Office in France since it's release. Here's some of what Mintzer had to say:
"Although it sounds like a possible title for a Sarkozy biopic, LE PETIT NICOLAS actually reps the first screen adaptation of a popular series of French children's books from the '60s. Unfortunately, while the original tales of the titular, mischievous 7-year-old were enriched by author Rene Goscinny's witticisms and illustrator Jean-Jacques Sempe's energetic sketches, helmer Laurent Tirard's live-action version is just the opposite: heavy-handed, overtly cute and rarely funny despite an onslaught of expensive visual gags. This hefty Franco-Belge [France-Belgiun] co-production should score with homeland families and fans; overseas coin will be more petit than grand."
