National Latino, or Hispanic, awards in the arts were first given by NOSOTROS, an organization founded by Ricardo Montalbán in the late 1970s. The NCLR awards took over NOSOTROS in the early 90s, and christened the awards, BRAVO. Since 1995, they have been known as the NCLR ALMA Awards. ALMA is Spanish for spirit, or soul.

PRODUCERS GUILD OF AMERICA (PGA), 20 January 2007, Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel.
18th ANNUAL AWARDS PRESENTED!
The Darryl F. Zanuck Producer of the Year Award in Theatrical Motion Pictures - LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE.
The Producers Guild of America Producer of the Year Award in Animated Theatrical Motion Pictures - CARS [New Category].
The David L. Wolper Producer of the Year Award in Long-Form Television - ELIZABETH I.
SUNSHINE was not in competition at the Sundance Film Festival last January (2006), but made its official premiere to a packed house, and a standing ovation. That sparked a bidding war for distribution rights won by 20th Century Fox's specialty division, Fox Searchlight Films, reputed to me more than $10 million. SUNSHINE received the Audience Award at last year's 54th Donostia - San Sebastián International Film Festival in Spain (2006).
For last year's award (2006), the Guild nominated BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, and CRASH won the Oscar®. The year before that (2005), the Guild nominated THE AVIATOR, and SIDEWAYS won. Will SUNSHINE be the "sleeper" film this year?
